ABOUT WORLD YWCA MOVEMENT

YWCA is an inspirational movement for women empowerment and gender equality with emphasis on social justice and skill development vocational education which seeks to bring about a paradigm shift in the societal structure with women being equal contributors to the socio economic structure of the country.

The first YWCA was established in England in 1855, when two groups met to aid women: one group formed a Prayer Union to pray for women, and the other founded Christian homes for young women. The two groups merged in 1877 and took the name Young Women's Christian Association.

In India, the history of YWCA dates back to 1875 when the first local association was established in Mumbai. This was followed by the YWCA of India in the year 1896.YWCA was started in Madurai in the year 1936
